Why Rescue Horses?

Many horses need a new home due to life changing circumstances such as loss of income, domestic violence, death or owner simply can not work with a horses problems.

Why Rescue race horses?

Every spring thousands of foals are born with the dream of winning big races, however the reality is a very small percentage of them earn a living at the track. The others are either trained for a second career or end up at the kill pen.

Why are horses mistreated?

When a horse is difficult to work with, uneducated people use force to try to control the horse rather than understand where the problem originated.

How many horses has Red Horse Rescue helped over the years?

Every horse counts and the rescue has placed dozens of horses each year and continues to follow their career with the clause written in that the horse can be returned at any time.

How many horses does the Red Horse Rescue support?

There are 6-10 rescue horses at the farm being retrained so they can find a special human to love them in a new career. The rescue also offers training off site to assess problem horses and help find them a safe situation.

Does Red Horse Rescue offer educational opportunities?

Yes, the rescue takes in working students who learn how horses think and how to work with horses in Equine Therapy. The rescue also hosts educational demonstrations at the farm to teach people about horses.

How can someone help an abused horse?

Contact the rescue immediately so that we can evaluate the situation and find a solution to moving the horse to a safe situation.

How can someone support Red Horse Rescue?

All donations in any form are applied directly to the care and training of the horses including veterinarian bills, farrier, hay, feed, supplements and any special equipment a horse may need. Checks are payable to Horse Rescue Rehab and Retirement Foundation or on the website Donate button.

What is an owner surrenders?

Many reasons result in horses being donated as an owner surrender. Domestic violence forces many women into giving up their animals in order to protect their children and themselves.
Circumstances change and some people lose their jobs or become injured and can no longer care for their horses.
Difficult or misunderstood horses are often left behind, when all they need is the correct training and understanding to find a new job.
